New governors are now greeted at the gate

A formal welcome dispatch now reaches every governor on arrival, the affairs office has catalogued twenty new incidents, and the bazaar no longer redirects traders to the ledger room.

Governor, a brief word. Several arrangements have been completed this week and I’ll cover them in order.

arrivals at the gate

Every new governor now receives an official welcome dispatch upon joining the settlement. Previously there was no formal greeting and new arrivals were left to locate the steward’s office independently. I did not consider this a satisfactory arrangement. The dispatch is now sent at the moment of arrival, in the correct voice, with the relevant orientation.

I will note that it references the goat. I considered omitting that section. I did not. It is, regrettably, relevant context.

credential recovery

Governors who lose harbor access can now request a recovery code by post and regain entry without involving the desk staff. The dispatch is written in an appropriate register. This is an improvement on the previous system, which I will not describe in further detail.

affairs in the field

Twenty new incident reports have been added to the affairs ledger. They cover ghost ships, diplomatic complications, village disputes, health matters, and one entry involving a pig that wandered into the garrison’s morning drill formation and remained there for the better part of an hour. The quartermaster filed a formal complaint. The cook requested combat pay. I have placed both documents in the archive.

I should also note that the affairs records now accurately reflect what the settlement receives when a matter is resolved. Several older entries described outcomes that did not occur. This has been corrected. The record reflects what was actually received, not what was initially promised.

the bazaar

Purchases in the market are now confirmed in-place. Traders no longer step outside to the ledger room after each transaction. This simplifies proceedings considerably and I am told it has reduced foot traffic through the accounting corridor by an appreciable margin.

the census

The rankings board now shows the total number of governors competing in the world. A governor’s standing is expressed as a position within the full field rather than as a bare number. The profile ledger shows island count alongside the heading as well. I have updated the relevant entries.

what is still being arranged

The correspondence room, the map boards, and a general review of harbor administration. No dates.

The gate is organized, Governor. That is more than I can usually say at this point in the week.
